Be it zodiac signs or predictions, astrology is a science that marries the possible with the probable.

I had my first encounter with astrology at age 23. It had been a chance encounter with a face-reader, who didn’t charge me a penny while making these two dramatic predictions:

– I would lose a parent before age 38.

– That age 41 onwards, life will pick up many notches.

On June 2, 2016, my father passed away while Priya and I were still in Sweden. This was seven months before I completed age 38.

As for the second prophecy, I am currently 41. And, since this is 2020, it is not difficult to guess the accuracy of the prophecy.

Depending on who you speak with, astrology/palmistry/face-reading or any other form of prediction is either a science or a pseudo-science. Nostradamus might have encountered similar attitudes. To my mind, they are but studies in probability. When everything in the universe is connected to everything and everyone else, one may just be able to grasp an invisible string linking the past to the future. But, given the huge number of variables involved, there is no certainty of making an accurate prediction.

Signs of the Zodiac

There may also be more than a grain of truth in what good old Linda Goodman had to say. Zodiac signs are by no means accurate tools to predict the future or to conclusively pre-judge an individual. But they can be useful to understand people.

Engaging with people is my job description. Based on my interactions with folks across cultures, ethnicities, genders and ages, a few things stand out. I have never come across a shallow Scorpio, a mellow Sagittarian or an imbalanced Libran.

By the same token, almost every Taurian has been as down-to-earth as can be; virtually all Geminis have been quick on their feet; and most Cancerians, full of nurture.

I have never been able to understand why.

But, have come to accept life as the bridge between the known and the unknown.
